Weavers Year 7 Rugby Team embarked on their first rugby experience over at Wellingborough RFC this afternoon.

With only 2 players who have played rugby before joining Weavers we have been working hard to get boys involved.

We took 16 players and enjoyed the afternoon greatly.  Losing to a very experienced Latymer College and drawing with Sir Christopher Hatton and Montsaye School.

All the players tried very very hard and were a credit to the Academy.  Special mention to Kai Kinnel and Josh Peacher who have never played rugby and were brilliant.  Our experienced players Jacob Cox and Ed North were equally brilliant and led the team very well.

We look forward to our next outing!!

Year 8 +9 Tournaments are coming up.

Rugby training is Thursday after school – we welcome all years to this.

Wellingborough Rugby Club is minutes from here and would love to see some of our players playing their on a Sunday morning.  Please check out their website of you are interested.  I know many of our year 7’s would love to be involved with rugby outside of school.

Thanks to parents for your support in getting them to training.

Reminder – All students who play rugby in PE or in matches for the school MUST have gum shields!!! They can be purchased from student office for £2.

I would like to say how proud I was to be invited to a Canterbury Kit design event as part of the RFU All-Schools projects. The projects gives all schools taking part in the All Schools project the opportunity to attend a Canterbury kit design workshop, which were held at local rugby clubs across the country. The cross-curricular workshops enabled the 3 lucky boys Jacob Cox, Harry Gayton and Jake Samwell the chance to design the schools team rugby jersey, whilst learning about the core values of rugby, the pride associated with the shirt and the importance of colours, logos and emblems. The boys were a credit to the school throughout the event and you can clearly see from the photos they had a great day and the shirt is one that we are all waiting to see and play in.

I would like to announce that Weavers Academy have secured funding though the RFU All School Project to develop rugby at the school. Rugby union is a game for All Schools – everyone can play it and every school can teach it. All Schools has been developed by the RFU to increase the amount of rugby in schools, and to encourage new players to join local clubs. WE as a school and in PE also believe in the RFU’s core values that can be developed and achieved through sport which are Teamwork; Respect; Enjoyment; Discipline; Sportsmanship

In light of this we will be supported in lessons by qualified coaches from the RFU, linking up with Wellingborough Rugby Club and supported with new kit and new equipment. Watch this space for future developments

The girls football team participated in their first Futsal competition in the Winter School Games and finished second, winning the silver medal. There were many outstanding performances but Georgia Collins topped them all with her 4 goals in the final game. The girls met the England Women's Football star Kelly Smith, and she was very impressed with the skill level of Weavers Futsal players.

The sixth form Young Ambassadors led the Dodgeball competition at the Winter School Games where thousands of pupils from all over the district participated in many different sports in the 3 day event.

The Young Ambassadors receive many compliments from the participating schools for their confident, fair leadership skills. They were also praised for their Dodgeball knowledge by the international Dodgeball player at the games.

Kelly smith (the best female footballer in England) was the guest of honour at the event. All pupils were fortunate to meet her and ask some fantastic questions (Charlotte Besedeke). Look out for the ET this Thursday for more pictures.
